- What Is Circumcision
The word “Circumcision” has two parts; circum, which means “around,” and cision, short for incision, So, points meaning “to cut around.”
Circumcision is simply the operation to remove the foreskin (prepuce), the flap of skin naturally covering the tip of the penis called the glans.
All males are born with a sleeve of skin called the foreskin (prepuce) that hides the glans from exposure. However, when a male is circumcised, the foreskin is “cut-around,” so the glans is permanently exposed.
The procedure is common for newborn baby boys and is recognized widely in certain parts of the world.
Circumcision is a religious or cultural ritual for many families, particularly Jewish, Islamic, African, and some Asian and Aboriginal families.
The choice to undertake a circumcision procedure can also be a matter of tradition, personal hygiene, and preventative health care.
There may be medical reasons why the procedure is required, for example, where the foreskin is too tight to be retracted over the glans, that condition is known as phimosis, or where it is recommended for older men to reduce the risk of a sexually transmitted disease.
In the initial consultation, the Circumcision Doctor, Dr. Ashraf Saddik, will discuss these reasons in-depth. The Circumcision Doctor, Dr. Ashraf Saddik, ensures the patient’s full autonomy, understanding, and informed consent is obtained. In addition, the Circumcision Doctor, Dr. Ashraf Saddik, provides a proper clinical assessment of the pros and cons of performing circumcision in an open safe, trusted space.
Nevertheless, it is one of the males’ most common surgical procedures.
Male Circumcision is the most performed surgical procedure globally. Evidence-based policies by major medical bodies such as the American Academy of Paediatrics and the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention advocate the Circumcision of boys and men because of its health benefits. These include reducing the risk of infections, including urinary tract infections in infancy and sexually transmitted infections later. The procedure prevents or reduces the risk of foreskin problems such as phimosis and inflammatory conditions. Circumcision protects against life-threatening penile, prostate, and cervical cancer in female sexual partners.
Male Circumcision has been done for various reasons, including health, cultural, religious, medical, sexual, cosmetic, or personal choices.
Circumcision has been done for several thousand years. In the early days’ circumcision was done for all types of reasons.
It may have started as a hygiene measure in hot, dry, dusty communities and became a cultural and religious ritual.
Early pictures of circumcision have been found in cave paintings of Ancient Egyptian tombs that are more than 5000 years old. The first representation of circumcision was found in a cave from Saqqara in Lower Egypt, dated about 2400 BC, where Priests typically carried it out in boys’ teenage years.
The procedure appears to have been widespread between civilizations in Ancient Egypt. Moreover, many historical evaluations suggest that healthy medical logic was behind circumcision.
Religious circumcision is considered a commandment from God in Judaism. Therefore, traditionally circumcision is performed by Rabi on the eighth day.
Islam circumcision is widely practiced and is often measured as a “Sunnah.”
It is also traditional in some Christian beliefs in Africa and central Asia, including several Oriental Orthodox anthologies.
According to religious belief, the practice of circumcision is to fulfill the divine commandment, carry out spiritual awakening, and shape life under God’s will.
It has been said that circumcision started on a religious sacrifice basis, as a ceremonial passageway marking a boy’s entry into manhood, as a form of charm to ensure virility (manliness) and fertility, as a means of enhancing sexual satisfaction, as support to cleanliness and hygiene, as a means of elevating a man’s appearance to his partner and as a means of marking those in tribes. The spread of circumcision in boys has been followed from generation to generation.
