Circumcisions are performed by The Circumcision Doctor, Dr. Ashraf Saddik, who has extensive experience in all age groups gained from completing hundreds of successful circumcisions in Melbourne. He is a fully qualified Specialist General Practitioner with more than 40 years of experience in performing circumcisions for both medical and ritual reasons for all age groups, from neonates to adults.
Neonatal circumcision takes approximately 10-15 minutes, and parents/guardians are encouraged to stay outside in the waiting room. The older the person is circumcised, the longer it takes. Adult circumcision takes around 40-50 minutes, it depends on the complexity of each case.
The Circumcision Doctor provides a private separate recovery room where the patient and his carer would stay and nurse quietly during the postoperative review time.
The Circumcision Doctor and his well-trained staff would observe, monitoring, and attend to your immediate needs during the postoperative care. Please, allow 3-4 hours for the whole procedure to ensure your safety and the care comprehensively provided like the day surgery in the hospitals.
On the day of the procedure
Neonatal Circumcision
Try not to disturb the baby boy’s regular daily routine. Continue his feeding and sleeping patterns as usual.
For newborn circumcision, the baby boy will lie on his back with his arms and legs gently restrained with no discomfort. Then, the penis and surrounding area are cleansed with a proper antiseptic solution. Then, The Circumcision Doctor, Dr.Saddik, will proceed with the local injection at the penile root/base.
The circumcision Doctor, Dr.Saddik, has a unique “Saddik Protocol“ to reduce discomfort and pain at the injection site. Also, “Saddik Protocol” covers both the pudendal nerve block and the ring block in one skin-piercing spot.
At the end of the procedure, The Circumcision Doctor, Dr. Saddik, will cover the penis with a protective medicated dressing.
The procedure will take about 10-15 minutes, and you will be encouraged to wait in the waiting room.
Teenager and Adult Circumcision
The circumcision procedure is similar for older boys and adults. However, the procedure may need to be conducted under light sedation or what is known as light-conscious sedation.
Parents may be allowed to join their kids during the light-conscious sedation administration for better support to ensure parental assurance around the safety of “Saddik Protocol.“
For older children and adults, circumcision is usually done at earlier appointments, as early as seven o’clock morning.
The Circumcision Doctor, Dr. Saddik, would appreciate abiding strictly by the allocated appointment as we run on schedules like a day of surgery. Otherwise, late arrival may cause cancellation and loss of your deposit. The Circumcision Doctor, Dr. Saddik, will inform every one of the arrival time and required preoperative preparation.
What You Need to Bring:
Neonatal Circumcision
The Circumcision Doctor, Dr. Saddik, would ask kindly to bring at least two cloth or disposable nappies and a blanket. Your baby is more likely to pass urine, have a bowel movement, and feeding immediately afterward will help settle him down rapidly.
Toddlers, Teenager Circumcision
For older children and adults, please bring loose underwear. Some cultures have their costumes, i.e., the Sultan Dress.
Try not to feed your child for a few hours before his circumcision.
Your child is less likely to pass urine, have a bowel movement, or throw up, afterward will help with his recovery.

Advice to parents - What now?
We strongly recommend applying drops of olive oil to the dressing every two hours on the day of surgery as it promotes good healing, then bathing the circumcised penis on the second day so the oil is not sticky and makes it easy to remove the dressing gauze. The oil is mainly an added precaution against infection, but being greasy, it also acts as a cushion between the head of the penis and the nappy /underlying cloth to minimize rubbing.
The oil should be applied all around the dressing gauze, around the head of his penis.
The dressing is to be taken off the next day straight away. Occasionally, it may also hold on longer. However, it doesn’t matter how long it takes, and you simply continue applying the oil for a day or two till the gauze comes off. Then bathe the circumcised penis in the warm salt bath on the second or third day, then take off the dressing in warm water if not already fallen off.
Occasionally the dressing fells off immediately post-surgery. That is quite okay. The dressing is just a protective layer. If the dressing fell off, bathe the circumcised penis in a warm salt bath for wound refreshment.
The patient/parent may prefer to use saline, savlon antiseptic bath.
The tip of the penis may likely be sore at first and look red, swollen, or bruised. There may also be mild oozing. It is possibly related to the local anaesthetics’ injection and handling of the penis during the surgery. All these bruises should settle down quickly within a few days. However, please be mindful that the frenulum at the ventral side may take longer to heal completely.
Be mindful of putting some ice pack or gentle pressure on the penis if there is mild oozing for twenty min or so.

It is okay to wash the penis during the healing process. The Patient/Parent should apply petroleum jelly with each underlying cloth change, and the patient/Parent can use oil or petroleum jelly to keep it from sticking to the nappy/underlying cloth. It is encouraged to keep the penis clean and often change the baby’s nappy or the underwear for older children/adults. Once the penis is healed, wash it as you would during routine bathing.
You can apply antiseptic ointment or petroleum jelly for a few days postoperatively while it’s a bit raw to ensure it doesn’t get infected. Then it is simply a matter of keeping it clean and dry.

Post Adult Circumcision Care
The wound is usually dry and non-painful after a few days yet may remain red for 7 – 10 days. A yellow film will then develop over the penis as part of the healing process. After the dressings have fallen off, the circumcised penis is ready for bathing as usual. If the dressing has not dropped off, please call the Circumcision Doctor, Dr. Saddik, to remove them immediately. Please do not wait till the follow-up review appointment. Please note that bandages may develop an odour the longer they remain on, which is normal. After the circumcision has healed
After the circumcision has healed, it is usually necessary to separate the shaft skin from the head of the penis. If that is not done, smegma (Smegma is the thick, white, cheesy substance that collects under the foreskin of the penis. It’s more common in uncircumcised men who don’t clean that area well enough; bacteria can grow and smell bad.) can accumulate under the adherent skin.
Therefore, the patient needs to return for review after the circumcision has healed.
Check for fresh bleeding, and if this occurs in the first 24 hours, please contact the clinic immediately. Bleeding after the first 24 hours is usually only a drop or two and of no consequence. However, the penis usually does get red and swollen, which is part of the healing process. The circumcised penis will have two layers of dressings.
The bandages will stay longer for circumcised penis, which is no problem. If the dressing has not dropped off after two days, The Circumcision doctor, Dr. Saddik, may remove them if you have trouble removing the dressing.
Leave the dressing around the shaft of the penis for 24 hours and use a sponge to clean the baby. After 24 hours, give the baby a warm bath with salt and gently remove the gauze. After removing the dressing, the circumcised penis is gently washed with soft, warm salt water.
The Circumcision Doctor, Dr. Saddik, is always available to review your baby as often as you feel necessary. If you have any worries, don’t hesitate to get to contact us.
For about one (1) week after the procedure, you will need to place a dab of Vaseline at the tip of your baby’s penis at each nappy change. Other than that, treat your baby as usual. It is essential to bring him back after the circumcision has healed (about four weeks after the procedure). Don’t neglect this. Use pain relief medication such as paracetamol for infants, only if needed. If the wound bleeds during the first 24 hours after the procedure, apply pressure with an ice pack in a clean cloth for 20 minutes and contact the clinic on the number shown in “Contact us.”
