Post-Procedure Care for Your Son’s Circumcision

Ensuring your baby’s comfort and healing after his circumcision involves a few essential care steps. Here’s what you need to do:

Please treat your child according to his usual routine. You can carry and hug him without pain or discomfort. You could use his baby car seat with strips, as usual. He can sleep in his customary position with no restrictions.

The Circumcision Doctor, Dr. Ashraf Saddik, will provide detailed postoperative instructions.

Pain Management

For the First 24 Hours: You may need to manage your baby’s pain using infant pain relief medication like Panadol or Pain-Stop. Follow the specific dosage instructions provided during your appointment with Dr Saddik, The Circumcision doctor.

Wound Care

First Seven Days:

  1. We highly recommend applying olive oil to the dressing every two hours. The more oil you use, the easier it is to remove the dressing on next day. The olive oil works like skin moisture to promote healing, avoid the dressing to dry sticking on your child’s penis.
  2. On the second day, we strongly advise removing the dressing to freshen up the wound.
  3.  Daily Bathing: You should begin bathing your baby on the second day after the procedure. You can use your regular bathing products to clean your baby gently with a warm salt bath or any mild antiseptic such as savlon or saline.
  4. Apply a generous layer of petroleum jelly to protect the area at each diaper change. For a more straightforward application, spread petroleum jelly onto your baby’s nappy and place it over the penis.
  5. Continue applying petroleum jelly at each diaper change. Natural healing occurs with keratinization of the surgery site.

Observing and Managing Changes

• Swelling and Redness: You might observe some redness and swelling for approximately 36 hours. This is a normal part of the healing process.

• gently use a diaper wipe to pull any skin away from the head of the penis towards the abdomen. Continue using petroleum jelly on the entire area during each diaper change for a month.

The Circumcision Doctor, Dr. Ashraf Saddik will schedule one week and one-month review to ensure complete recovery and observe any early complication that may occur early, such as skin adhesions or what is called an embed penis.

By following these steps, you are ensuring a smooth recovery for your baby and setting the stage for a healthy future. Your efforts will minimize discomfort and promote healing, leading to a positive outcome.

Attending the first postoperative review visit is essential to assess any concerns and resolve them promptly.
